VAGINAL THRUSH - WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR AND PREVENTION TIPS


VAGINAL YEAST INFECTION? It is itchy, it is uncomfortable, and there is an unusual white cheese-like thick discharge. 75% of women will experience a yeast infection at least once in a lifetime. It is however, very treatable. Topical antifungals or antifungal pessaries are available in the pharmacy, consult your pharmacist for treatment.

SEE A DOCTOR?

• If it is the first time having an infection
• If you have pain during sex or urination
• If symptoms persist for more than a week despite treatment
• If discharge that is gray, yellow or green
• If discharge has a foul fishy smell

VAGINAL THRUSH – PREVENTION TIPS
• Use gentle cleanser to clean vagina surroundings once a day
• Avoid irritants like perfumed soaps, strong shower gels, vaginal deodorants and douches
• Avoid wearing tight fitting underwear or tights
• Use cotton or silk underwear as it is of breathable material
• Ensure blood sugar is in control if you have diabetes
• Consider taking yoghurt or probiotics
