Choosing the Right Toothbrush
Ultra soft, soft, medium, hard. Charcoal bristles, green tea bristles, extra bristles.
Choosing the right toothbrush can be a tough task for many. Too many options can give us a hard time picking. Let’s dissect the types of toothbrushes from these few aspects:
- Bristles
- Head Size
- Handler
- Manual or Electric
Bristles
Oral care professionals recommend going with the softest toothbrush possible. This is why hard toothbrushes are increasingly hard to find. This is to ensure that the enamel and the gums are not damaged. It is wrong to assume that soft toothbrushes are not capable of brushing off plaque on the teeth. Your brushing technique is the key determinant of your teeth cleanliness. Not the hardness of the bristles.
Head Size
Smaller head size can get deeper into your jawline to reach the molars at the back.
A big head size does not guarantee efficient cleaning of your teeth.Again, technique matters the most.
Handle
A good toothbrush handle is a handle that you can hold firm. Toothbrushes with slim handles can result in slipping which can result in injuries. Go for toothbrushes with a rubber coating which prevents slipping.
Manual or Electric
Provided you have good brushing techniques, manual and electric toothbrushes give very similar results. However, electric toothbrushes can be better if you have limited dexterity.
Bottom Line
The right toothbrush is just a part of the key to good oral hygiene. Again, technique matters. Make sure you spend two minutes brushing the entire mouth, which is 30-seconds on each side – top right, top left, bottom right, bottom left.
