I was terrified to find that it was the antihistamine tablet we kept for allergies. I immediately grabbed the tablet from her. Sigh, I should have kept the medicine elsewhere. Luckily Amanda did not put it in her mouth, otherwise…
Does this sound familiar to you? Could it have been you, too?
When you have small children at home, it is important to always be mindful to keep your medicines somewhere safe because it may look like candies. Exposing your small ones to it can be very dangerous and fatal as they may end up putting it in their mouth.
But… are you wondering what is considered a safe place to store your medicines? Just keep these few points in mind:
- Up and high
- Cool and dry
- Out of sight; out of mind
See, it is as easy as that! Find storage locations in your home that meet these criteria and you’re good to go! When you keep your medicines somewhere high, it will not be easily reachable by your little ones and this will keep it out of their sight.
Remember to keep your medicines in a cool and dry place as it can be sensitive to heat and light and can degrade upon exposure. However, different medications have different storage requirements, hence it is important to refer to the label before deciding on the storage location.
The most important thing is to make sure your loved ones are protected from accidentally consuming your medicines. Find a safe place to keep it and you can be rest assured your little ones are safe too.
