Should You Get Vaccinated and Why? – A commentary by a Caring Pharmacist

As the saying goes, “prevention is better than cure”. Immunity is the body’s way of preventing disease. Vaccines contain substances that stimulate the body’s immune system to produce antibodies that fight against a certain infectious disease1.
Because of how new the Covid-19 virus is and how rapidly the virus has spread and is still spreading, the general population has not developed herd immunity against the virus. Some people are worried about getting vaccinated due to misinformation or a general lack of understanding of how a vaccine works, but rest assured, it’s safe because the vaccine has already been approved by health regulators and has undergone numerous clinical trials1.
Of course practising SOPs such as social distancing, wearing masks etc helps reduce your’s and other people’s risk of contracting Covid-192. However, vaccination gives you an increased level of protection against the virus. Clinical trials of participants receiving the vaccines show that the Covid-19 vaccine may also reduce the severity of the illness when contracted2.
So the combination of practising good SOP and getting vaccinated offers the best protection against Covid-19. What’s more, getting vaccinated protects not only yourself but others too!3 There are some in the community who are either too young, pregnant or with health conditions are not suited to receive the vaccine; they depend on you to prevent the spread of Covid-193.
Register today on the Mysejahtera app to get vaccinated. Let’s do our part and put an end to the Covid-19 pandemic together.
