5 Tips on How to Take Care of your Skin

1)Clean your face from dirt and pollutants

Make sure you have a makeup remover because it is important to keep your skin breathable at night. Natural olive oil is an alternative if you do not possess a makeup remover.2 Use the face cleanser twice daily to keep the environmental dirt and pollutants away. This is to ensure the pores are not blocked by the small foreign particles which accumulate and trigger further issues.3 However, remember not to over-wash your face because it might strip away your ‘good oil’ on your skin and make the skin condition worse.

2)Keep the dryness away

Toner: It is a thin solution enriched with extra nutrients to boost your skin health. It should be applied by gently tapping it onto skin after cleanser and before moisturizer to ease the absorption of the other regimen.3 The ingredients which are common in toners are sodium hyaluronate, spring water, marine collagen, vitamin E, alpha and beta hydroxy acids, rose water, green tea, etc.

Moisturizer: Moisturizer fills the spaces where the skin is peeling, therefore avoiding fine wrinkles and dryer skin from forming.4 Repeat the application twice daily especially when you are working or sleeping in an air-conditioned room. The common ingredients are marine collagen, aloe vera, Q10, urea, sodium hyaluronate, etc. 

3)Protect from sunlight

According to experts, sunscreen is exactly the most crucial to be applied during day time to protect skin from sunlight with UVA & UVB. It should be applied no matter if you stay indoors or outdoors with no excuses. Long exposure under the sunlight might increase the risk of certain skin cancer due to the damaging free radicals. Therefore, sunscreen with at least SPF30 is advisable to protect the skin over skin disease, wrinkles and dark spots.3 Apply it 30 minutes before exposing under the sun and try to reapply it every 2 hours if possible.

4)Use a face mask when necessary

Face masks are different from other skin products, face masks deliver nutrients more efficiently under occlusion.3  We have sheet masks, overnight masks and clay masks in the market and their main roles are deep hydrating, brightening and soothing. Sheet masks and overnight masks can be used daily while clay masks are usually recommended to be used 2-3 times a week to absorb excess oil from the skin. 

5)Special care for acne-prone skin

Acne-prone skin needs more care as it is sensitive towards certain ingredients in the product. Acne-prone skins need cleanser, toner, moisturizer and spot gel as well. Oil-free and non-comedogenic products should be considered to maintain hygiene and prevent breakouts.5  Salicylic acid, lactic acid, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, tea tree oil, etc are common ingredients which can be found in acne products. However, ingredients like cocoa butter, fragrance, cinnamon and coconut oil should be avoided because they might clog the pores and encourage overgrowth of bacteria.
